postdoctoral research in the integration of sensor networks and GIS

To qualify the applicant must hold a doctoral degree in GIScience, GeoSpatial Technologies or related field. The applicant must have good communication skills in English and good collaborative spirit, as the work will involve collaboration with researchers abroad as well as coordination with GIS labs. Enthusiasm, determination and the capacity to work independently are also essential.
The applicant has to prove experience in scientific publishing (ISI papers are recommended). He/she has to be able to design new projects in wide scope of spatial analysis (in various fields). Experience from foreign research internships, participation in projects and knowledge of the English language, appropriate with the job position is assumed. Good presentation skills are also required.

Annual salary depends on experience from EUR 15,000-18,000 which is adequate to local living standards. The applicant is expected to live in Olomouc during the contract.

Description

The position in Department of Geoinformatics is available from January 1, 2015 for twenty four months, in the first instance. The department is located in the Faculty of Science, Palacký University Olomouc, Czech Republic (www.upol.cz). The University has a long tradition which dates back to 16th century, and nowadays educates more than 24,000 students. The Department of Geoinformatics provides Bachelor, Master and Doctoral programmes and it fosters three research areas – modelling in GIS, digital cartography and remote monitoring of landscape (www.geoinformatics.upol.cz). 
Applicants are invited for postdoctoral research in the integration of sensor networks and GIS. At the application level, research will focus on the study of soil properties, landscape development and ecosystem functions. 
The aim of the postdoctoral research is to study and to verify the deployment capabilities of sensors (technical implementation, effectiveness of measuring, equipment calibrations etc.) and to analyse the achieved results in comparison with conventional methods. 
The department is equipped with a number of sensors of domestic and global producers, powerful hardware and server, desktop and mobile GIS software.
