Three (3) PhD Scholarships in Meteorology, University of Cologne, Germany (2015)

The Institute for Geophysics and Meteorology, University of Cologne (IGMK), Germany,
invites application for several Research Assistant positions with the opportunity for graduation

(1) Novel observations of clouds using dual-frequency radar
(2) Scale-adaptive parameterization of convective boundary layer clouds
(3) Exploitation of high resolution reanalysis for renewable energy applications

Topics 1 and 2 are closely related to the Jülich ObservatorY for Cloud Evolution (JOYCE) where various ground-based remote sensors are operated and combined with model simulations. The positions are related to the Energy Transition and Climate Change (ET-CC) initiative within the University of Cologne, which was re-cently awarded to IGMK, and in which meteorology is linked to renewable energy economics, and the Hans-Ertel Centre for Weather Research (HErZ)- Retrospective Analysis of Regional Climate.
