Transportation Systems Researcher (Early Career) for Resource Flow Modelling Project in London

As a researcher you will contribute to our framework by building key process knowledge on “how things are produced and consumed” in the transportation sector. The position will involve the systematic exploration of infrastructure, mode and operational activities for land, water, and air transportation.

Description

The Project:
The Institute for Integrated Economic Research is a non-profit organisation based in Switzerland and the United States. Together with the Imperial College Centre of Process Systems Engineering, we are building a human ecosystems model that is focused on establishing a new breakthrough view on economic systems. The aim is to show how economic systems can be re-engineered to meet 21st century challenges. The project’s focus is to make the developed framework available under open-source conditions for global use to inform technology and policy decisions.

As a researcher you will contribute to our framework by building key process knowledge on “how things are produced and consumed” in the transportation sector. The position will involve the systematic exploration of infrastructure, mode and operational activities for land, water, and air transportation, mapping this knowledge into a sector-to-process ontology, zooming-in to construct several process diagrams from infrastructure construction to transportation service delivery, quantification thereof by collection and translation of process data into a standardised format, and writing of related supporting documentation.

As an output your position will provide for a detailed overview of cradle-to-grave supply chains for numerous transportation systems, in collaboration with our other sector domain experts. The final product will be an easily accessible open-source data-portal for production and consumption process data across all sectors.

The Team:
Become an important part of an exciting initiative in London that addresses serious issues for humanity. Team members will become part of a unique project that seeks to build resource based economic modelling capacity. Members will acquire detailed knowledge on the inner workings of various supply chains, gain insights in how industries operate and how goods and services are produced. They will also acquire skills in large data collection exercises, and the operation and use of databases.

Position:
We are looking for an early career researcher who has expertise in transportation systems across land, water, and air.
