Postdoctoral Fellow/Researcher position in «Robust and Efficient Networking in Dynamic Heterogenous Environments»

The Faculty of Information Technology, Mathematics and Electrical Engineering (IME) at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) has a vacancy for a full-time position as a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Telematics (ITEM).

The appointment is for a term of 2 years. The position of postdoctoral fellow is a fixed-term position with the primary objective of qualifying for work in top academic posts.

Description

Work description

The candidate is expected to pursue research in the area of communication networks. A particular focus is on designing robust and cost-efficient network architectures and approaches to support communication between heterogeneous nodes in coastal and arctic maritime operations and surveillance (CAMOS) sensor networks for the IME Lighthouse project CAMOS. A possible application scenario is communication and networking for deep sea mining. The design should take into consideration the special characteristics of sensor networks, such as heterogeneous nodes (e.g. acoustic underwater, terrestrial radio, satellite, and UAV) and intermittent communication. The architectures and approaches should also incorporate a management framework that enables coordination and optimization of the network in order to fulfill the desired performance criteria, e.g. delay, reliability and network energy efficiency. In addition, the candidate is expected to initiate the building of a networking framework and demonstration platform for CAMOS.

Information about the department
Telematics is the area of communication networks and networked services, encompassing technological, societal and economical aspects.

The Department of Telematics currently has 16 professors or associate professors, 9 adjunct professors, associate professors or assistant professors, and about 30 active PhD students and 4 Post-Docs.

The Department of Telematics performs research and research-based education at a very high international level. The department is to be the leading research group in the telematics/networking field in Norway, and also have a leading position in Europe in chosen disciplines within its research areas. Research activities are organized into three main research areas- Networks, Networked systems, and Information security-, which are also responsible for the content of educational main profiles.
