The School would like to appoint a Research Fellow to work in the area of design for manufacturability of aircraft systems. The role is funded through the Factory of the Future for Aircraft Wing Assembly project sponsored by the UK Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) and Airbus.
Description
The aim of the research project is to advance the state of the art in the field of aircraft systems design for manufacturability and assembly. You will be responsible for undertaking high quality research associated with work packages in aircraft wing systems architecture, systems equipping build philosophy and systems installation process qualification and publishing results in high quality journals.
You will also be responsible for organising project meetings, writing project deliverables and coordinating research activities and will need excellent interpersonal skills. The post will require regular travel within the UK.
This three year post at Cranfield University will provide an exciting opportunity to work closely with Airbus on commercial aircraft design and manufacturing projects. It is a challenging position which will require research within a university collaborative research environment.
An MSc/ MEng in Aerospace/ Mechanical engineering or related subject is essential and a relevant PhD or work experience in aircraft systems design/ design for manufacture would be highly desirable. You should have experience of using 3D CAD systems (ideally CATIA v5) and design for manufacturing and assembly methods.
