The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy).

The Electronic Engineering team is involved in the design and construction of equipment required by the in-house researchers. The team has a long experience in designing and building new equipment for life sciences applications and is therefore well prepared to interact with the scientists. Therefore the team is able to deliver user-friendly and state of the art equipment. The post-holder will be responsible in designing, testing and assembling electronic/electromechanical devices to be used in research labs, in close collaboration with scientists.

The post-holder will be responsible for individual projects from the beginning to the end including the test and installation phase. The post-holder will directly report to the head of the electronic workshop.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate is required to have education as an electronic technician or engineer with several years of work experience. Good knowledge in digital and analogue electronic design as well as basic knowledge and skills in mechanical aspects of a project design are essential. Knowledge and experience in microcontroler (e.g. ATMEL) software development as well as in higher software languages (e.g. Labview) is required. Good knowledge in CAD for mechanical design and electronic layouting is also essential. Ability to work in a small team, excellent communication skills, flexibility and the ability to work under pressure is important. Good theoretical and practical knowledge in industry standard hard and software is an advantage. Being able to communicate in English and German is essential.
