The Faculty of Engineering and Architecture has a vacancy for a position of post-doctoral assistant, starting from February 1, 2015. It concerns a temporary full-time position for a one-time renewable period of three years.

a position of full-time post-doctoral assistant at the Department of Industrial Technology and Construction (EA20) – salary at 100%: min. € 23.468,58 – max. € 39.716,10 (at present paid out at 160,84%)

Profile:

  • hold a PhD in Engineering (on the subject of computer networks or (distributed) software or a degree recognized as equivalent (this requirement has to be fulfilled at the appointment date);
  • in-depth knowledge of distributed software;
  • have research experience in the field of distributed software provided by scientific publications in international and national peer reviewed journals and/or books and be willing to continue this research;
  • having actively participated in international and national scientific conferences relevant to the field concerned;
  • be profoundly interested in education of computer science and it’s practical application within the Bachelor’s and (advanced) Master’s programmes;
  • be interested in a wide scope of network and software technology and applications;
  • possess the necessary skills and flexibility to manage changing educational tasks;
  • have a team oriented attitude within the department and the course;
  • experience as team member in international research projects is recommended;
  • willingness to elaborate such research projects.

Job description:

  • to conduct scientific research in the discipline of computer networks or (distributed) software;
  • to apply for, generate and manage (mainly international) research projects;
  • to cooperate in guiding doctoral research;
  • assisting and judging of master dissertations for the course Master of Science in Industrial Engineering: Computer Sciences, preferably in the own research domain;
  • to cooperate in the academic services of the department towards private companies by organising trainings and generating and elaborating projects;
  • to provide assistance in the teaching duties of the department in Bachelor’s and (advanced) Master’s programmes in Industrial Engineering: Computer Sciences;

(the total amount of academic and administrative duties will be limited to maximum 30% of the assignment).

Applicants should measure up to the language proficiency as mentioned in article 91novies of the decree concerning the restructuring of higher education in Flanders. The administrative and teaching language used at Ghent University is Dutch, but in case one doesn’t speak Dutch, it is also possible to apply.

In accordance with the decree, in case the candidate has an education assignment, one should have proficiency in the language in which one teaches. This means that the candidate needs to have proficiency on an ERK-level (European Reference for Languages) C1.

Even if the candidate with an education assignment, isn’t teaching a training component in Dutch, one should have proficiency in the Dutch language on an ERK-level B2. One should meet the requirements within 3 years after the recruitment or appointment.
