Postdoc position on Computed Tomography-based quality control of customized porous structures produced by additive manufacturing

The INTERAQCT project is a pan-European industrial-academic initiative that brings together expertise from industry and academia in the domain of Computed Tomography for Advanced Quality Control of Key Enabling Manufacturing Technologies. Research focuses on CT-equipment, CT-software, NDT, dimensional metrology, additive manufacturing, micro-manufacturing, and composite manufacturing.

Responsibilities

You will work on quality control of customized porous structures (e.g. for porous implants), which is an emerging application of AM. You will investigate how the use of high-resolution CT for can be used to quantify the robustness and controllability of the production of porous structures produced by AM techniques and treated by subsequent surface modification techniques. A particular point of attention is to reveal the roughness caused by non-melted powder grains attached to the surface. The protocol for the quantitative analysis of the surface morphology which has been developed at KUL will be used. This protocol for surface roughness measurement will show the influence of different surface modification procedures on the strut and node surface morphology. Hence, by applying an appropriate surface modification after production, the material properties can be homogenized and optimized according to specific requirements of surface roughness. You will benefit from direct cooperation with industrial associated partner LayerWise who uses SLS for making such porous structures. In addition, you will be involved in the project management team of the project.
