Project

3D chocolate printing is an emerging and innovative technology developed at the University of Exeter and commercialised by Choc Edge Ltd. It offers new way of creating, making and distributing personalised chocolate decorations and products. More importantly, it opens up a great opportunity to digitalise the design content and integrate its manufacturing and supply chain with contemporary cloud computing platform. This represents a revolutionary approach to achieve a distributed and connected manufacturing and distribution network in an efficiency and resource-sharing fashion – representing a disruptive innovation for future manufacturing.

This project aims to investigate and implement cloud-based 3D chocolate printing and its product and service system in order to achieve a sustainable manufacturing supply chain and a scalable eco-system.  It will adopt emerging cloud-based technology to control 3D chocolate printing and manage its supply chain and distribution so that it can deliver personalised products and service. Furthermore, it will understand how to design and optimise this cloud-based product-service platform which can manage a distributed 3D chocolate printing network and make intelligent decisions on sustainable manufacturing and supply chain of personalised products. The finding from this project could provide fundamental understanding on the development of future manufacturing and supply chain system for greater flexibility, profitability and scalability.
