NERC-funded PhD in Marine Engineering: Sandbank Dynamics

Project title: Study of Offshore Sandbank Dynamics

Description

This PhD project is to use an advanced and open-source TELEMAC3D code, fully coupled with wave module (TOMAWAC) and sediment transport module (SISYPHE), to gain full understanding of the 3-dimensional interactive processes and dynamics of the offshore sandbank at the Norfolk site. The research will also include the impact of the sea level raise and climate change. It is expected that the research provides valuable and insightful information for better and sustainable management of marine resources and coastal defences.

The project is a collaborative venture between Cardiff University, University of Bath, and Daresbury Laboratory of Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC). The student will greatly benefit from the extensive expertise and experiences of a multi-institute supervisory team in numerical modelling, and the High Performance Computing (HPC) facilities at Cardiff University.
