Research Assistant – Heterogenous Catalysis

JOB DESCRIPTION

Technische Universität Berlin offers an open position:

Research assistant – Postdoc – salary grade E 13 TV-L Berliner Hochschulen

part-time employment may be possible

Faculty II – Department of Chemistry – BasCat, UniCat-BASF Joint Lab

Reference Number: II-424/14 (starting as soon as possible until 31.12.2015 – extension may be possible / closing date for applications 10.12.2014)

Project Description: The Cluster of Excellence “Unifying Concepts in Catalysis” (UniCat) and the chemical company BASF SE founded in 2011 the joint lab BasCat at the Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin). Heterogeneous catalysis has a key role to play in solving the challenges of the future. It gives us great influence in the areas of energy and raw material efficiency, emission reduction and broadening of the raw material base (e.g. find alternatives to oil). Research questions pertaining to the strategically relevant area of raw material change will be investigated at BasCat rigorously and with a long-term perspective. C-H activation is one of these research topics and the great challenge is that – up to now – the activation of less reactive molecules of natural gas is characterized by low selectivities. The motivation of the partners of BasCat is to achieve something together that would not be accessible to the individual members of the alliance: to improve our basic understanding in heterogeneous catalysis, transfer that understanding to new development concepts for industrially relevant catalysts, and gain access to an application.

Working field: You will participate in research projects of multi-disciplinary teams dedicated to heterogeneous catalysis; your contribution will consist of synthesis of catalytic materials, development of new synthesis technologies, and characterization of these solids.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Requirements: As a successful candidate you should hold a PhD in chemistry or chemical engineering. You have expertise in synthesis and characterization of materials with an in-depth understanding of heterogeneous catalysis. You have strong communication skills and have the ability to develop innovative solutions by working in multi-disciplinary teams. Fluency in German and English is considered as a plus.

Application:

Please send your written application with the reference number and the appropriate documents (including a cover letter, CV, copy of the certificates of your PhD / Diplom / Master, a summary of your PhD thesis an a publication record) by email.
