PhD studentship in human centred automotive design

Brunel University

Project This PhD will be part of a larger collaboration between Brunel University and Jaguar Land Rover that explores automotive design from a human centred perspective. This research will focus in the study of future in-car digital technologies and how they can be seamlessly integrated to provide real-time, customised information to meet the needs and expectations of human occupants in various automotive design scenarios. This will involve combining digital-human communication protocols and will involve the development of both the technical communication channel and the human conversation protocols.

Candidate Profile You will be an enthusiastic and self-motivated person with a good honours degree in Design, Electronics Engineering, Bioengineering, Computer Science or a related field and an enquiring and rigorous approach to research together with a strong intellect and disciplined work habits.

A demonstrable strong interest, or experience in any of the areas of electrical engineering, communication protocols, human computer interaction, or interface design is desirable.

Good team-working and communication skills are essential as you will be part of the interdisciplinary Human Centred Design Institute (HCDI) at Brunel University. To find out more about research at the HCDI, go to: http://hcdi.brunel.ac.uk/

Eligibility Due to funding restrictions the studentship is available to fund the research for UK/EU nationals. The studentship covers tuition fees and provides a tax-free stipend of 13,863 (plus £2,000 for London allowance) for four year duration.

The start date for the project is expected to be December 2014.
