Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Membrane Catalysis

JOB DESCRIPTION

The University is seeking a Post Doctoral Research Fellow in Membrane catalysis for Greenhouse Gas Conversion to Value-Added Chemicals Production.

The Centre for Process Integration & Membrane Technology at Robert Gordon University is developing new technologies for monetizing carbon dioxide in flue gas streams and bringing novel and scalable solutions to the carbon dioxide utilization market. We are focused on developing eco-friendly membrane processes for the utilization of flue gas, proving up and commercialising superior process technologies which herald step-change improvements in process efficiency and effectiveness at greatly reduced costs.

With a growing technology portfolio, and modern laboratory facilities at the Robert
Gordon University’s new Riverside East Campus, we are looking for a post-doctoral research professional.

You will be a highly motivated candidate who is able to document a solid background in membrane catalysis and catalytic reactor approaches.

Familiarity with preparation, characterization and testing of catalysts and coke particles, experimental design and multivariate analysis of data is a strong essential advantage. You'll also be fluent in written as well as spoken English.

Principal Duties

The significance of this post-doctoral research project is to improve the efficiency of carbon dioxide conversion to generate high-value-added products regarding:

  • Characterisation of properties for monitoring and control of up- and downstream processes;
  • Tailoring of materials for downstream processes and process efficiency;
  • Streamlining of reaction flow sheets; additives in catalyst production;
  • As a post-doctoral research fellow you will together with Principal Investigator of participating platforms coordinate the research of membrane process characterised by membrane preparation, catalyst preparation and successive process steps (e.g. materials characterisation) and provide well defined membrane samples of different but well characterised sources, catalysts and structures to all cooperating research platforms;
  • The work will also include characterisation of properties of every solid obtained in the system of adding values by successive process refinement;
  • The work focuses mainly on conducting designed experiments including all successive steps, analyses of pooled data, data aggregation by advanced mathematical modeling methods and scientific conclusions as well as writing of papers as first author and co-author together with other researcher within the research cooperation;
  • Furthermore, the successful post-doctoral applicant will develop co-operative projects initially planned with industry using new pilot facilities;
  • These actions will promote novel materials for innovative applications and widening the network of research projects;
  • It is expected that the post-doctoral research fellow will generate new applications for funding of high level and advanced carbon utilization research.
