Postdoc (f/m) with focus on silicon heterojunction solar cells

The Institute of Energy an Climate Research – Photovoltaics (IEK-5) focuses on researching new materials and innovative device architectures for sustainable photovoltaics based on thin films. The IEK-5 deals with the fundamental physics of partly disordered materials used in solar cells. These can be amorphous or microcrystalline silicon and its alloys, organic or hybrid (organic-inorganic) materials or various functional oxides. In addition, components and devices for new applications such as passivation and contact layers for high efficiency silicon heterojunction solar cells or multijunction solar cells for efficient water splitting are developed.

We are looking to recruit a

Postdoc (f/m)
with focus on silicon heterojunction solar cells

Your Job:

The complete process chain of the silicon heterojunction solar cell fabrication consists of the wet-chemical preconditioning of crystalline silicon wafers to the growth of functional thin-films using various deposition techniques and the final post-deposition metallization and thermal treatment. Under the support of technical and scientific staff, the task of the position is to establish a high through-put-process chain for fast development of a high efficiency silicon heterojunction solar cell platform, on which further activities as the implementation of silicon-alloy materials, intedigitated back-contacted cells and light management concepts can be explored. In particular, the optimization of wet-chemical wafer treatments and the startup of screen printing metallization are focus of the work.

Your Profile:

  • university degree in physics, electrical engineering or material science with PhD
  • excellent knowledge in electrical and optical phenomena in semiconductors
  • laboratory experience on Si wet-chemistry and Ag screen printing techniques
  • experience with fabrication and characterization of Si wafer based solar cells
  • know-how in thin-film deposition and/or silicon heterojunction solar cell fabrication preferred
  • very good spoken and written English
  • flexible and team-oriented working method
  • enthusiasm in science and experimental work

Our Offer:

  • international, interdisciplinary working environment on an attractive research campus, ideally situated between the cities of Cologne, Düsseldorf and Aachen
  • limited for 2 years with possible longer-term prospects
  • Salary and social benefits in conformity with the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Civil Service (TVöD).

Forschungszentrum Jülich aims to employ more women in this area and therefore particulary welcomes applications from women.

We also welcome applications from disabled persons.

We look forward to receiving your application, preferably online via our online recruitment system until 21-11-2014, quoting the reference number 2014-228.
