PhD/Post-doc in Functional Optical Tomography

A PhD or post-doc position is available in the Quantitative Imaging Group of the Department of Imaging Physics. The PhD/post-doc will develop new, functional tissue imaging techniques based on the absorption of light by labelled probes (e.g. GFP). The excitation of the probes can be through focused light, light sheet illumination, or wide field illumination. The detected signal is the probe fluorescence or its photothermal signature. A three-dimensional (3D) image of the probe distribution is reconstructed based on multiple measurements at various angles and offsets relative to the sample (computed tomographic reconstruction). The developed functional imaging capability is integrated with current activities on 3D structural imaging of tissue based on low-coherence optical tomography. The 3D tomographic reconstruction of the labelled probes distribution is integrated with the structural tissue geometry obtained through low-coherence optical tomography. The developed combined structural and functional imaging technique is applied to high-throughput, in-vivo 3D imaging of tissue and small animals, e.g. zebrafish.

Description

We are looking for enthusiastic candidates with a strong ‘scientific drive’ and a demonstrable interest in optical imaging, (fluorescence) tomography, light tissue interaction, and/or optical instrument design. A general interest in biomedical technologies and the life sciences is a requisite. Candidates should have at least an MSc degree in Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or the equivalent. Candidates with a PhD degree are also invited to apply.
