Frank Knox Fellowships are offered by Harvard University to British citizens. UK Knox Fellows will be part of a group from up to 30 Knox Fellows at Harvard in a given year. They can be held at the Harvard Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, Harvard Business School, Harvard Kennedy School, Harvard School of Public Health, the Harvard Graduate School of Design, the Harvard Graduate School of Education and Harvard Law School.

For doctoral programmes, a Knox Fellowship would typically fund the integrated Master’s element, after which the Fellow would then receive departmental funding to complete the degree. Full information is available on the website.

Who is eligible?
Men and women who are British citizens at the time of application, normally resident in the UK, who

  (1) are studying for a first or higher degree and will graduate in the academic year 2014-15; OR
  (2) graduates who have completed a first or higher degree and graduated most recently no earlier than 2010.

No application will be considered from any student already in the United States and postdoctoral support is not awarded.

Marriage is not a bar to an award but extra funding is not provided.

How do I apply?

Applications are to be made online at www.frankknoxfellowships.org.uk and, in the same application season, a separate application must be made to the chosen programme which meets all the particular School’s criteria and deadlines. Award of a Knox Fellowship at interview in January does not carry automatic admission to Harvard.

What do recent Knox Fellows say about studying at Harvard?

Lauren Curtis, a recent Knox PhD student commented: My Harvard PhD has really changed me as a scholar. The first two years of course requirements, designed to give you a broad base of knowledge in your field, introduced me to a new area of study that led to a totally different—and much more exciting—dissertation topic.
