The activities planned for this Research Fellowship include the scientific coordination of the study about the surface faulting hazard (fault capability) of several macroareas in northern Italy, central Italy, southern Italy, Sicily and Sardinia. The study will be developed and detailed in relation to the seismotectonic and environmental context of the considered macro-areas, starting with a systematic and careful investigation of the documentation of previous siting studies available from the Italian Nuclear program and other sources.
The study aims to make available, for the selection of the potentially suitable within the considered macro-areas, the complete and reliable geological database, as well as the state of the art interpretations, in order to minimize the uncertainty on the actual suitability of areas compared to the impacts affecting the safety of the deposit induced by potential fault displacement at or near the ground surface.
