Researcher Atom Probe

To further strengthen its atom probe research and applications team, we are presently looking for a researcher (m/f) atom probe.

Description

As advances in materials and process technology in microelectronics are inherently linked with enhanced fundamental understanding, the Materials and Component Analysis group (MCA) plays an important role within imec by providing feedback on materials modifications induced during various process steps. The MCA laboratory disposes over state-of-the-art equipment dedicated to semiconductor analysis (TEM, SIMS, nanoprobing,...). Among those the atom probe technique is an important technique a it provides atomic scale 3D elemental mapping of elemental distributions in materials and nanoscale device. Single atoms and their neighbors can be imaged with (sub)-nm resolution. Imec has already demonstrated the use of atom probe in challenging applications such as dopant profiling in FINFET transistors, III-V devices and several materials.

To further strengthen its atom probe research and applications team, we are presently looking for a researcher (m/f) atom probe.

Job description
You will be responsible for the fundamental research and development of applications on our atom probe tool.

Your tasks will include:
- development and optimization of procedures for sample preparation, in particular for nanoscale device
- characterization of state-of-the-art nano-electronics devices using the atom probe technique
- optimization of data interpretation procedures
- optimization and assessment of quantification accuracy, among others by correlation to other techniques and device performance
- contribution to basic research in atom probe physics and data reconstruction
- reporting to industrial partners
- publishing in international journals and contributing to major conferences
- project proposal writing and follow up

The work will consist of experimental work in our clean room, data interpretation and interaction with other imec researchers. You will be helping in guiding the work of several PhD students in this field. As part of the MCA team, it is expected that you gain knowledge in other characterization methods in order to optimize your data interpretation and your integration in the MCA team and that you can correlate your results to advanced process and device technology.

Profile
You have a PhD degree in Engineering/Physics or equivalent through experience. Practical experience in atom probe research is a very important asset as well as a strong scientific portfolio. Additional experience with SEM, FIB is an asset while knowledge on microelectronics technology is beneficial but not mandatory. The imec environment requires a good and flexible team player with competent communication skills. The day-to-day contact with your customer requires a fluency in English.
