PhD Position in Meshing Technologies

Description:

The Foundation for Research on Information Technologies in Society (IT’IS) is an independent non-profit research organization dedicated to improving and advancing the quality of people’s lives. The foundation’s primary activities include the risk assessment of wireless communication technologies, computational electromagnetics in complex environments, computational life sciences (CLS) applied to complex anatomies, and the development of medical image-based high-resolution, computable whole-body anatomical models.

We are seeking a PhD candidate to contribute to the further development of the meshing functionalities required for processing our complex anatomical models and/or CAD-based structures.

Your main tasks:

• Develop methods for

a) generation of high quality, feature-preserving volume and tetrahedral and mixed element surface meshes for anatomical modelds and/or CAD-based structures
b) adaptive mesh refinement
c) interactive and image-based meshing
d) moving meshes

• Apply the developed methodological framework to concrete CLS problems, e.g., in the area of vascular fluid-structure interaction modeling and biomechanics

Education / Profile:

• MSc degree in Computer Science, Electrical / Mechanical Engineering, or related field
• Interest and basic knowledge of algorithms, finite element analysis, geometry, medical image analysis, graph theory
• Advanced object-oriented programming experience in C++
• Programming experience in Python a plus
• Experience with mesh generation and/or CAD modeling tools a plus
• Excellent command of the English language; knowledge of German a plus
• Required personality traits: perfectionist, disciplined, and flexible
• Excellent ability to work both independently and in a team
