Postdoctoral position in Optical Network Modeling and Optimization

Information about the division

Optical communication links and networks are essential for the Internet backbone, and flexible optical networking is a key area in future communications that is highy dependant on accurate, yet simple channel models.

A joint cross-disciplinary project on optical network optimization involves two departments at Chalmers; the Photonics Lab at Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience, and the Communication Systems Group at the Department of Signals and Systems. The project seeks a postdoc that shall work on the development of novel channel models for such networks, accounting for linear and nonlinear crosstalk during the fiber propagation. Recent developments in the fiber channel modeling area make this a hot current research topic. The position may also include research in optical network optimization and resource allocation, depending on the background of the candidate.

The project will benefit from the prolific research environment in Chalmers’ Fiber-Optic Communication Research Centre (FORCE).

Major responsibilities

The person filling this position will participate in research as outlined above and will be spending time at  both departments which will be essential to help cross-fertilize our work. Therefore, working in teams is an essential aspect as is “thinking outside the box”.  You are expected to publish your results in the leading scientific journals and conferences. The appointment offers an opportunity to qualify for further research positions within academia or industry. Included in your work is also to some extent taking part in the supervision and teaching of students.

Position summary

The position as a Post-doctoral fellow student is a full-time temporary employment, limited to a maximum of two years. A monthly salary is paid.

Qualifications

Applicant should have a Ph.D. degree preferably in Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering or similar; the degree should generally not be older than three years. Strong experience in any of the following areas is highly advantageous; optical fiber communications, optoelectronics, digital communications, and communication networks. Excellent team-working skills, presentation skills, and fluency in English are required. As merits will be considered knowledge in communication networks, optimization and channel modeling.

Chalmers continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers.
