PhD student position in Energy Logistics

As a PhD student your major responsibility is to pursue doctoral studies in relation to an ongoing research research project. At large, PhD studies include a number of doctoral courses, developing a research design, collecting and analysing empirical evidence, and reviewing literature to develop a framework for the thesis. You are expected to communicate the results of your research both verbally and in writing, e.g. by presenting papers at conferences and publishing results in academic journals. The research activity requires you to open-minded and interested in pursuing results, both by working alone and in collaboration with other researchers. It is important that you have the ability to work in teams, in particular cross-disciplinary teams, but you must also be able to work independently.

Description

Information about the research/the project/the division
The position is affiliated to the Division of Logistics & Transportation, a dynamic research environment within transport, logistics and supply chain management. The division pursues a problem-oriented and inter-disciplinary research, with strong emphasis on industry relevance but also high visibility in leading academic journals. The key aim of our research activity is to address societal challenges and contribute to industrial leadership. The PhD candiate will be actively involved in a newly started project on energy efficiency in logistics called "The fifth fuel". The key research topic lieas at the the intersection between logistics (and supply chains) and environmental sustainability. Increased demand for freight transport services and need for energy conservation and improved energy efficiency call for substantial improvement of current practices and revision of theoretical recommendations. Through concept development and empirical studies of companies in the wider context of 'supply chains, the "Fifth fuel" project aims to create new and actionable knowledge in the form of methods and principles through which the freight transport sector can identify the potential of “where” as well as “how” it can be brought to life.

Position summary
Full-time temporary employment. The position is limited to a maximum of five years. You will spend about 80% of this time on research, and about 20% on teaching and other departmental tasks. You will enroll on the postgratuate programme and the research school at Department of Technology Management & Economics.

Qualifications
Master's degree in Logistics, Transport, Supply Chain Management or equivalent subject areas, with genuine interest in both theoretical and practical problems. We are looking for an individual that can work with an interesting research problem, analyse empirical evidence, and bring the results to the attention to both academic community and relevant practitioners. You have good language and commuincation skills (oral and written) as many aspects of the work, which includes contact with industry, writing academic papers, presenting at conferences and seminars, and teaching.
