PhD Positions in Protein Aggregation in Metastasis, Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany (2014-2015)

We are looking for highly motivated PhD students to join the project „Metastability of proteins during tumor metastasis“ in the Protein Aggregation group of Dr. Martin Vabulas at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main (Germany). The group is part of the Buchmann Institute for Molecular Life Sciences (www.bmls.de) and the Cluster of Excellence „Macromolecular Complexes“ (www.cef-mc.de) which strongly support interdisciplinary research and the development of cutting-edge technologies.

The project is funded by the European Research Council (ERC) Grant and is going to exploit biochemical and genomic approaches in murine models to address the role of the molecular chaperones in tumorigenesis. It will include systematic modification of bacterial artificial chromosomes of the HSP70 superfamily members to create a panel of metastatic cell lines with adjustable amounts of the respective chaperones. Subsequently, these cell lines will be expanded in vivo and analysed ex vivo by mass spectrometry and next-generation sequencing. The goal is to identify substrate-chaperone pairs which are required for tumor metastasis and which might serve as new therapeutic targets.

Application deadline is October 15, 2014
