Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Introduction

Future Energy Center is one of the prioritized research environments in Mälardalen University focusing on three parallel tracks: i) Renewable energy; ii) Energy efficiency and emission mitigation; and iii) Smarter modelling, simulation and control. During 2013 Future Energy attracted 83 MSEK from KK-foundation (KKS) and its four industrial partners ABB, Mälarenergi, Eskilstuna Energi & Miljö and Aspholmen Fastigheter.

We are now expanding and are looking for reinforcement in the form of a postdoctoral fellow within Track 2, Energy efficiency and emission mitigation. The postdoctoral fellow position is aimed at strengthening our competence in intelligent energy systems and efficient use of energy in buildings and industrial processes.

The postdoctoral research fellow position is a combined research and teaching position where the postdoc shall be given the opportunity to develop his/hers independence and qualifications as a researcher, as a basis for another research/teaching position. The postdoc position implies that at least 75% of the employment is devoted to research. Up to 25 % of the employment can be devoted to education, preferably within our engineering programmes Sustainable Energy Systems, Industrial Engineering & Management in Energy Markets and courses in Building Energy Systems.

Position description

To qualify for the appointment as a postdoctoral research fellow, you should have received a PhD within 2007-2014 and shown research and pedagogical skills within the subject area. Further reference is made to the Higher Education Ordinance section 4 and Appointments Procedure for teachers at Mälardalen University.

Qualification requierements

Both scientific and pedagogical experience is taken into account for appointment of the position, although most emphasis is placed on scientific skills within the subject.

Applicants should have a background in engineering with conducted research in the field of Future Energy. Applicants should have a general interest in questions related to both the power and district heating systems. It is important with capacity to interact with stakeholders in research, industry and society. For applicants to the position in Energy Efficiency and Emission Mitigation we expect previous research on energy use in buildings and industry. Background related to smart buildings, smart metering and demand-response issues along with energy efficiency improvements of buildings and industrial processes will especially be considered. Further, knowledge in distributed generation, micro grids, automation and load control of buildings and/or industrial application is valuable along with skills in modelling, simulation and programming (e.g. Modelica/Dymola, C++, .NET, Fortran). Experiences using tools for energy efficiency measures e.g. energy management system and its related standards (e.g. ISO 50 001) will be acknowledged. Future Energy is also a multidisciplinary engineering environment where experience of working in multidisciplinary research projects is a merit.

Decisive importance is attached to personal suitability. This includes interest and competence to apply for funding as well as abilities to guide and lead PhD students in a good way. We value the qualities that an even distribution of age and gender, as well as ethnic and cultural diversity, can contribute to the organisation and to our research environment. We encourage external, including international, applicants for this position.

Salaries are set individually, why it is desirable that the applicant state salary expectations in the application.
