Post-doctoral positions at the Computational Genomics Group, at the University of Crete

The Computational Genomics Group (CG2) at the University of Crete (Herakleion, Greece) is looking for motivated experienced researchers (post-doctoral level) to work on a project lying at the interface of genomics, genome evolution and machine learning. Work will include the analysis of functional elements of the human genome through the application of N-gram Graphs and is co-funded by the European Union and National Funds under the framework of plan "Aristeia II".

The project extends in various facets of computational biology ranging from algorithm development and optimization, database management and modeling of gene expression and genome arhitecture evolution. The ideal candidate should hold a PhD preferably in Bioinformatics/Computational Biology or alternatively in Informatics/Computer Science with a proven focus on computational genomics. Expertise in big volume data analysis, machine learning and statistical inference are highly desirable qualities. Knowledge of molecular biology, genomics and evolution is to be considered a plus. Candidates should have good oral and written communication skills in English, as well as excellent organisation and resource management skills.

Minimal requirements include strong computational/programming skills alongside:

Good knowledge of Inferential/Descriptive Statistics

Good knowledge of scripting languages such as Perl/Python

Experience with Statistical programming languages such as R, Matlab/Octave

Familiarity with relational databases management

Experience with Next Generation Sequencing Data Analysis/Gene expression Analysis is highly preferable.

Funding is available for 2 years with the possibility of further extension, with expected starting date early in 2014.
