Opening for a Post-doc research associate - salary group 13 TV-L – with a starting date of January 1st 2013.

The position calls for 39 hours per week. The short-term contract will end on July 31st 2015.

The research associate’s duties include academic service for the EU-FP7 ERC project NAMASTE – Thermodynamics of the Climate System

The research associate will carry on activities in the context of the NAMASTE project and his research will be at the interface between the macroscopic thermodynamical approach to the investigation of the climate system and the statistical mechanical view on geophysical fluid flows, with the vision of the Earth as a complex system featuring multiscale properties and irreversible processes. Interdisciplinary research abilities are greatly appreciated. The expertise of the research associate should cover one or more of the following areas:
- (Astro)geophysical turbulence
- Thermodynamical Properties of the Climate System
- Climate Tipping Points
- Dynamical Systems: Lyapunov exponents and covariant vectors
- Non-equilibrium Statistical Mechanics
- Stochastic Dynamical Systems
- Parametrization of unresolved processes
- Adjoint Methods.

Requirements:
Academic degree in mathematics, natural sciences, or engineering plus doctoral degree in mathematical/physical/geophysical sciences or related areas.
