Part of the Business Unit “Ethylene & Sulfur products” is Chelates & Micronutrients (C&M). The RD&I of that business are centralized in Deventer, the Netherlands. This highly motivated and dedicated team contains world leading know-how on coordination chemistry, stability constants, speciation calculations, the synthesis of alternative chelates, and process optimization. The team works closely with marketing managers, sales managers, engineers and business managers.

 
The C&M RD&I capability is part of a larger Specialty Chemicals RD&I institute. This enables access to expertise groups and advanced analytical techniques, pilot facilities, modeling expertise, solids handling knowhow, as well as experts on Health, Safety and Environmental issues, etc.

 
The global C&M business itself serves the marketing areas Industrial Chelates, Micronutrients and Oil & Gas. The marketing area Oil & Gas is an area of rapid growth that we are developing globally. To support this process we currently seek a highly motivated R&D Specialist Oil & Gas.

 
Your main function in this role is to lead day-to-day work on core flood testing, corrosion experiments, handling and preparing formulations used in Oil & Gas. In doing so you execute experiments designed to achieve a better application know-how and insight. This is in terms of the value proposition of the products as well as the interpretation of the analysis of flowback samples to determine the effectiveness of products in the field, thereby supporting the sales and marketing of the product Dissolving StimWell.

 
Your success is measured in relation to key project deliverables and you report to the RD&I manager Chelates & Micronutrients. You will be part of a multinational and multicultural organization that is committed to your personal and professional growth.

 
Responsibilities and deliverables
Within this context you plan, set-up and execute projects and programs aimed at improving application know-how in order to gain a better understanding of existing products and the development of new products. You also plan, set-up and execute projects programs and tasks to develop new application areas within the upstream Oil & Gas industry for existing products.

 
In doing so you work closely with the Stimwell project organization (Sales & Marketing, technical marketing, oil field engineers and RD&I) delivering projects on time and on budget, and reporting results.
 
You also work closely with external RD&I institutes and specialized strategic AkzoNobel research groups in order to define application trial/testing. You maintain close control of day-to-day project activities and resources, tracking project milestones, facilitating progress meetings, and helping to resolve problems and/or trouble shooting as required. This includes supporting customers with testing procedures and the interpretation of results.
 
You contribute to the AkzoNobel’s IP position in Oil & Gas, working to come up with new ideas that might lead to patent applications and ensuring seamless knowledge transfer across multi-disciplinary teams.

Job requirements / Candidate profile

Candidate profile
To apply for this position you must be able to demonstrate the following attributes:
• MSc in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering and at least five years of experience in project management for the chemical industry;
• Experience in RD&I for the oil & gas industry, including application (especially coreflood) and formulation know how;
• Strong technological interest or know how is an advantage;
• Proactive and results driven, able to multi-task and meet deadlines under pressure;
• Able to travel as required;
• Excellent communicator including fluent English, with a basic understanding of  Spanish an advantage.
