Scholarship Description:
This 3-year fully funded PhD opportunity will involve working in the School of Engineering’s Energy Theme, at Cardiff University. Particulate matter (PM) in the form of black carbon has recently been identified as the second most significant positive climate forcing agent next to carbon dioxide; however, large uncertainty budgets are assigned to its climate forcing potential (e.g. Bond, 2013). Similarly there are proven detrimental health effects to demographics exposed to high concentrations of PM, however currently the understanding of this observation is limited by the ‘outdated’ total-mass concentration measurements as utilised in PM10 type studies.
