Description
The optical laser department at the European XFEL is developing a range of pulsed laser facilities, which will require a multitude of monitoring and control hardware with interface to the XFEL control system.
For this purpose, we are seeking to employ an experienced
Optoelectronics Engineer or Physicist (f/m)
The Position
Working closely with laser physicists and engineers on the development, commissioning and operation of various pulsed lasers for the European XFEL project, the candidate will
- implement schemes for monitoring and controlling of various beam and pulse parameters
- design, test and commission optoelectronic, laser and opto-mechanical hardware

Requirements
The candidate ideally has
- a Masters- or PhD-degree or equivalent academic or industrial experience in photonics, electronics, physics or similar disciplines. Work experience in a large scale research facility is highly preferable
- an affinity to both control hardware (PLCs, MTCA.4) and according software (Python, Matlab, C++, MS Office)
- proven knowledge and practical experience in the fields of laser physics and optoelectronics an acute awareness of the need for documentation and project planning, combined with the commitment to adhere to these necessities
- excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a multi-lingual, multi-disciplinary team

Duration: The appointment is initially limited to 3 years and may be – subject to a later decision – become permanent.
Salary and benefits are similar to those of public service organizations in Germany. In addition European XFEL provides a non-contributory company pension scheme as well as broad relocation benefits. The European XFEL GmbH intends to achieve a widely international staff. Non-German candidates hired from abroad receive an international allowance.
