Investment Analyst - Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services Global Department (MAS) Climate Business, Washington

Background / General description

IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is the largest global development institution focused exclusively on the private sector. We help developing countries achieve sustainable growth by financing investment, providing advisory services to businesses and governments, and mobilizing capital in the international financial markets. Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services Global Department (MAS) is responsible for supporting, sourcing and executing investment transactions in manufacturing, agribusiness and consumer services sectors. MAS works closely with other industry investment groups within IFC and with appropriate counterparts within the World Bank.

Within MAS, the Climate Business Team is responsible for:

  1. developing and supporting the processing of climate business investment transactions across all MAS sectors (e.g. the use of renewable energy by MAS sector clients, climate smart agriculture, energy efficiency, green buildings);
  2. monitoring sector developments, particularly in the renewables and distributed power space, and keeping MAS management informed of these developments;
  3. developing, structuring and processing transactions in the renewable energy manufacturing industry (solar and wind) and contributing to supervision of select portfolio clients / investments;
  4. providing pipeline related operational and analytical support.

Duties and Accountabilities

  • Work on processing investment transactions (as noted above; distributed power / renewable energy is a particular area of focus)
  • Support preparation and dissemination of Climate Business sector strategies
  • Conduct analytical research for various sectors and companies, including; prepare client pitch books and support business development efforts
  • Help establish and maintain quality client service and relationships to enhance new business opportunities
  • Maintain up to date sector information and information on IFC's related activities
  • Update and maintain internal databases and pipelines
  • Create high quality financial models for investment transactions
  • Analyze historical and projected financial statements
  • Prepare documentation for IFC internal processes and awareness raising (e.g. presentations)
  • Other tasks that may arise in the unit's work

Selection Criteria

  • Bachelor's or equivalent degree
  • Up to 3 years work experience in a financial institution or other finance-related field
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills including corporate/project finance
  • Ability to develop advanced level / complex financial models
  • Knowledge of or interest in renewable energy a plus
  • Keen interest in development finance and multicultural environments
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; good knowledge of power point a plus
  • Fluency in English and proficiency in one or more of Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish preferred
