As an optical engineer within our life science technologies department you will work with application engineers and system engineers to design, build and test optical test stands for custom photonic devices.
Description
Imec performs world-leading research in nano-electronics. Imec leverages its scientific knowledge with the innovative power of its global partnerships in ICT, healthcare and energy. Imec is headquartered in Leuven (Belgium) and has offices in the Netherlands, US, Taiwan, China, India and Japan. Its staff of more than 2,080 people includes over 750 industrial residents and guest researchers and scholarships.
Within imec’s Life Science Technologies department, our group’s research activities focus on the development of novel tools for health care applications. Current projects vary from lab-on-a-chip systems and PCR devices to neuro probes and photonic sensing devices. Such technologies require a multidisciplinary approach within a team that has expertise in engineering, molecular biology, cell biology and surface chemistry. Especially for our work in new devices for point of care diagnostics, we are looking for an enthusiastic scientist eager to shape tomorrow’s health care technologies. We aim at research and development at the highest international level and with relevance for the biomedical and pharmaceutical industry.
You will design, build and test optical test stands for novel photonic devices and novel bio-applications. You will also design, build and test compact optical solutions for integration of photonic devices with discrete optical elements in miniaturized form factors.
Your will:
- Work with application engineers and system engineers to design, build and test optical test stands for custom photonic devices.
- Based on application requirements, design, build and test miniaturized optical systems combining chip-based integrated photonic devices and (customized) discrete optical components.
- Modeling of optical systems using optical modeling software to estimate performance, refine specifications and evaluate robustness.
- Design and build mechanical test fixtures and implement hardware automation to streamline optical test protocols when needed.
- Collaborate with specialists from our cross-disciplinary design and technology teams.
- Work according to agreed customer timelines and report on progress internally and to customers.
- Manage time effectively according to aggressive project schedules.
