Diagnostic Imaging Advisor

The diagnostic imaging advisor works under the guidance of the Leader of the MSF intersectional “Diagnostic Network”. The main objectives of the Diagnostic Network are:Improve the quality of clinical practice in the field

  • Support diagnosis and monitoring of more complex clinical conditions as well as common morbidities, and diseases of epidemic potential incl. those requiring imaging diagnosis
  • Influence the development/adaptation of new diagnostic methods appropriate to MSF settings and ensure their implementation and use in MSF programs’

The MSF diagnostic imaging working group (DIWG), a part of the Diagnostic Network, has standardized the way of selecting, procuring and implementing new diagnostic imaging tools into MSF. Regular trainings, product revisions, support of imaging in the programmes, quality assurance, radiation safety etc. are a routine.The main objectives of the position are to:

  • Support the translation of the recommendations regarding DI into action.
  • Increase DI capacity, quality and availability in MSF’s field programs.
  • Act as diagnostic imaging advisor for medical/public health departments and field staff for all MSF sections.
  • Collaborate with the team of biomedical engineers for the selection and follow-up of use/performance of DI equipment.

PROFILE REQUIREMENTS

Professional training

· Radiographer/Medical Imaging Technologist with full current board certification.

· Ideally >5 years working experience; minimum 3 years working experience

Work experience

· Experience in radiography (i.e. plain X-rays) of both children and adults (fluoroscopy an asset)

· Experience working with CR equipment; ideally also with traditional film/ chemistry image production Experience in training and coaching

· Familiar with Quality Assurance systems in radiography

· Ideally experience with basic IT and networking of digital imaging equipment

· Ideally experience in ultrasound; particularly in obstetrics

· Ideally experience in working in resource-limited settings

Specific skills

  • Excellent networking and communication skills including proven ability of report writing
  • Ability to motivate and lead medical colleagues
  • Application of radiation safety principals
  • Ability to translate strategy and policy into operational practice in the field
  • Proven strategic and analytical skills in order to provide strong leadership and vision in DI
  • Flexibility to travel and to spend up to 80 % of time on work related travel to project sites and European headquarters
  • Enthusiastic, motivated and independent; able to work with minimal supervision in challenging contexts
  • Ability to work in a diverse international team
  • Knowledge of the humanitarian world; commitment and passion for the goals and work of MSF
  • Computer literacy: Microsoft Office is essential
  • Fluent in English and optimally in French (reading and writing)
  • Prior research experience is desirable

Start date 1 July 2015

Contract: 7 months at 100%

Location:MSF operational centre location (Amsterdam, Paris, Barcelona, Brussels or Geneva)
