Senior Scientist - Cooperative and Automated Driving

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job description

Within the Mobility theme, work is being done to increase the prosperity and improve the well-being of our society by making mobility cleaner and safer. To this end, innovative solutions are being developed and applied in vehicles, links are made with intelligent infrastructure, and human behavior in traffic is predicted. Examples of these activities are vehicles that drive automatically and communicate actively with each other and their surroundings to improve safety and traffic flow, the development of electric and hybrid vehicles, and related smart solutions for the charging infrastructure. The primary goal here is to significantly reduce both emissions and road accident toll, thus increasing overall traffic safety and improving the (air) quality in our living environment. Within the Mobility theme, you work on technologies that make traffic more reliable, safer, cleaner and more energy-efficient.

The Integrated Vehicle Safety department focuses specifically on vehicle automation to make road transport safer and more efficient, using real-time control platforms, in-vehicle sensors, and wireless communication among vehicles and between vehicles and roadside systems. The information obtained from sensors and communication is used to enable vehicles to manoeuvre automatically. Within this framework, you design models, algorithms, and software, needed to enable vehicles to automatically respond safely and reliably in a dynamic environment with other road users. You analyse the results by means of simulation studies, hardware-in-the-loop set-ups and experiments using test vehicles. You work in a multidisciplinary team specialized in vehicle control, wireless communications, sensors, embedded hardware and software, vehicle dynamics, and traffic. You are responsible for the development of knowledge in particular application fields and/or particular control and estimation technologies. Together with this team you take an active role in the development of next generation automated transport systems for both national and international customers.
