PhD Student

The Department “Process Systems Engineering" (Director: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kai Sundmacher) at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems in Magdeburg, Germany, is inviting applications as

PhD Student
Payment follows TVöD (Salary Class 50% E13)

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, limited to three years with the possibility of extension.

The advertised position is embedded into our research project „Proton Exchange Membrane Water Electrolysis" which we was initiated together with Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg. The overall objective of this project is to investigate the mass, energy and charge transport phenomena coupled with the electrochemical reactions taking place at anode and cathode of the electrolysis cell. For this purpose mathematical process modeling is closely combined with harvesting of experimental data from lab-scale electrolysis cells.

Suitable candidates hold a Diploma degree or Master degree in chemical engineering. Marks should be clearly above average. Experience in the simulation of chemical reactors as well as knowledge about electrochemical systems will be considered as strong assets. The project tasks require a high level of computational skills and the readiness to collaborate closely with experimental scientists of our group. The willingness to work in an interdisciplinary team and international environment is expected.

The Max Planck Society seeks to increase the proportion of employed women in those areas where they are underrepresented and explicitly encourages women to apply for this position. The Max Planck Society also seeks to employ more severely disabled persons. Applications from severely disabled persons are explicitly encouraged.
