Are you ready for a two year training program while at the same time receiving a salary? Would you like to be a member of the next generation technological designers of high-tech systems?
Do you like to work in an international, multidisciplinary team of professional experts for the next two years ? Would you like to apply your innovative, creative ideas in developing future industrial top products or develop yourself towards a System Architect? Then you should consider starting as a PDEng trainee at TU/e and gain a head start on your fellow Master students!
Each year the Department of Electrical Engineering offers (maximum) 20 excellent candidates the chance to follow a two-year Post-Master Designer Program leading towards a 'Professional Doctorate in Engineering' (PDEng). During the traineeship you follow an individual program, consisting of (a.o.) courses, assessments and (industrial) projects, deepening the theoretical knowledge gained during your university studies. Your (individual) professional development is an essential topic over two years. You will apply all knowledge gained in arge-scale multidisciplinary design projects, preferably in-company . You build up a valuable network in the business community and can count on professional supervision from both the university and industry. Your individual training scheme is customized to your personal and professional skills, as well as the demands of the final project.
Project description:
EAST (smart Everything everywhere Access to content through Small cells Technologies) is a project in which 20 European partners from 5 European countries cooperate to position Europe as a technology leader in the upcoming 5G market. EAST will develop enablers and facilitators for 5G Small cells mobile networks up to 6 GHz. Key targets in comparison to existing 3/4G solutions are: enhanced data rates (video bandwidths > 100MHz), higher integration (10x to 100x size reduction), higher functionality (MIMO), dramatic costs reduction (10x to 100x), higher overall system efficiency (>60%), and re-configurability (multiple-transmit bands). Focus of EAST will be on the overall integration of RF front-ends for 5G base station and handset applications with their critical building blocks, namely: the signal up-conversion / conditioning (DPD), PA, LNA, switches and antenna.
In the EAST project TUE will address the subject of beam forming and beam steering in the 2.5 - 5GHz band using phased array antenna, integrated matched FE and cognitive radio technology. As replacement for current GaN solutions in the base station, more integrated solutions are targeted. Si-based low noise high efficiency FEs, with variable gain flexible amplifiers, are researched. Via beam forming a high gain can be established which in a small cell scenario translates into lower transmit power and lower energy consumption.
