Role Summary/Purpose:
The compressor aerodynamics lead engineer is a technical expert in high and low pressure turbine or high pressure compressor design associated with gas turbine engines. Experience in aircraft engines or in industrial gas turbine products is relevant.
Essential Responsibilities:
Your specific responsibilities will include:
- Aerodynamic design and testing (scale and full scale)
- Consideration of engine system level issues
- Coordinating aerodynamics design with hardware designers and manufacturing
- Participating in problem solving initiatives
- Identifying improvements in processes and tools
- Advancing the state of the art of aerodynamic technology
- Participating in and leading technical reviews
- Supporting design best practices
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline with about 10 years of relevant experience in the following technical areas:
- Aerodynamic design – Detailed understanding of the physics and principles associated with gas turbine compressor aerodynamic design, ranging from overall component characterization to detailed understanding of stage and blade aerodynamic physics; expertise with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) based modeling as well as empirical based aerodynamic modeling techniques
- Test – Component and full-scale testing experience - test planning, instrumentation, test conduct, data analysis
- System Integration – Experience integrating compressor designs in the context of the overall propulsion system, with sound understanding of how compressor component design choices and characteristics impact the larger engine design
- Technology - Demonstrated ability to advance the state of the art with technologies and design features leading to improved component performance; strong connections to relevant professional societies, and recognition through publications and patents
- Proven ability to create and execute strategic vision for product advancement
- Excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to communicate at a variety of levels, from detailed design reviews to high-level leadership reviews
- Fluency in English
