Role Description
This position will provide full time environmental, health and safety support to the operations to assure that all operations at Catania and Medolla sites are compliant with all applicable EHS laws and regulations and with the Zoetis EHS Standards. The position will be responsible for coordinating regulatory programs and its permitting applications and support the development and coordination of EHS training programs.
Primary Responsibilities
- Counsel and collaborate with the site leader and leadership team to support their roles in creating and sustaining an excellent EHS culture, and collaborate with other site functions to create and sustain an excellent site operating culture (EHS, Quality, Operational Excellence);
- Lead a team to develop and implement plans to build and sustain meaningful colleague engagement in site activities and decision-making that impact their safety and health;
- Establish and maintain management systems (procedures, training, routine self-audits, etc) to assure continuous compliance with air, waste water and waste management legal and company requirements;
- Assure effective root cause analyses and investigations of site accidents, incidents and near-miss incidents and assure the timely corrections and interventions to prevent recurrence. Also, assure timely reporting of significant incidents to regulatory agencies and as well as Zoetis company corporate groups (Global Risk Management, Security, etc.) as required by the Company EHS Standards;
- Practice safe working techniques and re-enforce the safety policies, guidelines, and procedures as set out by the Company;
- Cooperate with the Compliance Manager to implement the EHS regulatory requirements;
- Provide daily guidance and direction in EHS programs at the employee/supervisor level to ensure consistency, engagement and continuous improvement across the site;
- Responsible for leading programs to identify and assess site EHS risks, implementation of effective risk controls; and routine self-evaluation of the effectiveness of the risk controls;
- Ensure that contractor personnel working on the property are working safely and in compliance with site and Zoetis company EHS Standards;
- Maintain and update as needed SOP's for all safe work practices and equipment and utilize them in the day to day training;
- Advise, assist, and audit line management to ensure that EHS programs and requirements are implemented and effective;
- Perform and contribute to the Site Training Plans by conducting employee orientations; emergency response training; and coordination of modular training programs for the Operation;
- Ensure inspections by regulatory agencies and Zoetis Global Risk Management are coordinated and deficiencies avoided or minimized and corrected;
- Maintain positive and constructive professional relationships with EHS regulatory agencies;
- Manage periodic team-based Process Hazard Assessments (PHA's) of manufacturing operations, and assure the timely implementation of appropriate risk controls as needed;
- Assist with maintaining the Site Preparedness and Emergency Plans & Procedures and assist the Leads of the Emergency Response Team as needed.
Education and experience
- Education: Chemical Engineer or other similar technical discipline;
- Qualified RSPP Module A, B5 and C (D.Lgs 81.08);
- Minimum of five years' experience in Environment, Health and Safety role;
- Minimum of five years chemical/pharmaceutical API manufacturing plant experience is preferred;
- Intermediate computer skills (e.g. MS Office including Excel and Word) are essential;
- Excellent written and verbal Italian and English skills;
- Experience in Process Safety and Industrial Hygiene.
