From our head office in Rotterdam, we develop Qandidate.com, various internal back-office applications and internal and external API's. In your role as a DevOps Engineer, you get to team with highly motivated and experienced colleagues. All with a strong vision on web development and software architecture. Advanced tools and techniques:
We believe we should use the right tool for the job. Therefore we started using Elasticsearch for faceted search and storing our read models, Redis for feature toggling (http://labs.qandidate.com/blog/2014/08/19/open-sourcing-our-feature-toggle-api-and-ui/) and A/B testing, Docker to run our micro services (http://labs.qandidate.com/blog/2014/09/17/there-is-a-microservice-for-that/), HAProxy for service discovery, ZeroMQ for our chat bot a.k.a. one-button-deploy-tool and Ansible for provisioning our servers. All this in addition to running a traditional LAMP stack for our existing software.
Your job as DevOp!
Building new stuff is cool. But it cannot be done without making sensible decisions on what tools to use and also how to monitor and maintain it all. This is where you come in. Besides developing new software with the team you are the one who thinks about how this software will perform in production, how we can improve our deployment process, and in general take responsibility for our infrastructure. You are a full member of a multidisciplinary team and not stuffed away in some basement. In fact you will be pairing with every member of the team.
You have:
- A relevant Bachelor's or Master's degree, for example in Computer science or Mathematics;
- Strong object oriented programming skills;
- An open, investigative mind and determination to deliver clean, concise and SOLID code!
Besides being proficient in a modern programming language and being able to easily understand the techniques our developers use, you need to have a good understanding of:
- Linux;
- Ansible, Puppet or Chef;
- Cloud computing;
- Git and GitHub;
- Continuous integration & delivery;
- Automated deployment;
- Docker;
- Test-driven Development (TDD).
We consider it as an advantage when you contribute to open source projects, have a GitHub profile and attend conferences and meetups. As we are expanding, experience counts but less than potential. So be sure to respond if you are less experienced - but extra eager ;)
