Job Description

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy).

The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary team that develops scientific instruments for x-ray scattering experiments (www.embl.fr/groups/instr/). Under the responsibility of the team leader, its primary task will be to contribute to the development installation and support of the instruments used at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility in Grenoble, France and EMBL@PETRA-III synchrotron beamlines in Hamburg, Germany Qualifications and Experience. The candidates should have a university degree in mechatronics, robotics or an equivalent diploma related to instrumentation. Background in physics would be an advantage. We expect the candidates to have significant experience in developing automated systems and to be familiar with industrial programming languages and motion control systems.

Experience in opto-mechanical, fluidic or vision systems would be an advantage. We wish to recruit a self-motivated candidate with good communication skills and comfortable to work in an international research environment. The ability to integrate in a team, as well as the capacity to reach the assigned objectives and deadlines will be essential. Good knowledge of Microsoft Office is required (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Intermediate English and French are required.
