PhD Studentship: Automated Design in the Presence of Noise & Uncertainty

Design automation and optimisation techniques have grown in popularity over the past 10 years to the point where they are routinely used across a number of industries. These techniques typically use advanced search algorithms to reduce the number of computational simulations required to perform an optimisation enabling substantial design improvements to be achieved with little or no user interference. Despite their proliferation there are a number of issues with these techniques, they handle design uncertainty in a very inefficient way, can be hampered by noise and could make better use of varying levels of information fidelity. The following PhD studentship aims to address these issues by developing a novel stochastic multi-fidelity design optimisation algorithm.
