Flow and sediment management in hydropower-regulated Alpine rivers and suitability for river ecosystem services

To develop optimal management scenarios in terms of flow regime, sediment dynamics and fluvial hydromorphology under typical conditions of alpine rivers. The research will especially address the issue of existing and future licensing for hydropower production, the related requirements of instream flow releases, and its effects on the river physical habitat also within the context of river restoration projects. The overarching management perspective for which the research is developed is the ecological and environmental integration of river systems in the alpine landscape. The Sarca River in the Trentino region will be used as a preferential case study to develop the proposed research.
