Post-doctoral Fellow - Particle Mechanics and Hydrodynamics

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Department of Chemical Engineering at Mid Sweden University,
Campus Sundsvall is looking for
A Post-doctoral Fellow in Particle Mechanics and Hydrodynamics

Particle-based methods are one of the emerging modeling/simulation approaches to investigate highly nonlinear mechanics and dynamics problems of complex systems. Those problems are, for example, fracture and fragmentation of granular materials and blood flows in a complex vascular system. The methods have been applied to both continuum and discrete systems, particularly for the problems of complex materials containing both solid and fluid phases. The challenges are computational demands, on one hand, and thermodynamic foundation, on the other hand. We are currently launching a new project which aims at uncovering micromechanics and microfluidics taking place in super low-density fibre networks, as typically seen in many hygiene products. The project has a focus on developing computational tools for designing fibre network systems for hygiene applications. At the same time, we have an ambition to understand fundamental mechanics and transport phenomena in a highly disordered system. We invite those candidates who are interested in developing a career both in fundamental computational/statistical physics and also in focused industrial applications.

Job description: Research according to the objectives in the new project (80–100 %). Depending on the candidate’s background and wishes, teaching duty may be requested (0–20 %).

Location: Sundsvall, Sweden.

Entry: The appointment will be immediate, as the best candidate is found and available.

For further information please contact Professor Tetsu Uesaka, +46 (0)60-14 89 16 or Head of department, Helena Fjellström, +46 (0)60-14 88 13

Salary: According to the university’s salary scale for postdoc, which depends on background and experiences.
