PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVE OF JOB
- The Ariba’s Principal Consultant is charged with customer focused delivery and Ariba solution expertise. The Principal Consultant is responsible for delivering sound, high quality deliverables on time and within budget.
- The Principal is also expected to actively deliver while maneuvering around organizational, strategic and operational issues, impacting the operational profitability of the implementation practice.
- The Principal is focused on the rapid transformation of client organizations into world-class users of collaborative business commerce solutions, through innovative, high-quality, global Spend Management and Network Solutions that create sustainable bottom-line results.
- As a member of the Software Implementation Team, the Field Principal Consultant serves as Ariba Solutions expert or architect on application functionality and technical requirements.
- The Principal brings exceptional procurement and business commerce process expertise to the table while delivering sound engagements.
- He/or she is responsible for effectively applying the Ariba deployment process to meet customer needs within the realm and scope of the Statement of Work (SOW).
- Core to these skill sets is emotional intelligence, great customer management skills and experience, a commercial customer orientation, as well as the ability to manage, mentor and motivate people into delivering world-class service on a consistent basis.
- Principal Consultants can work on all aspects of the implementation process including participation in the sales process in developing scope of work and requirements gathering, managing the client relationship, project management, and coordinating technical resources

- Utilizing knowledge of customer’s business and industry to assess findings and shape solutions.

- Displaying proactive communication (i.e., face-to-face meetings and phone calls are more frequent than emails).

- Ariba Solution Expertise
- Utilizing appropriate resources to build solution, customer, and industry knowledge.
- Communicating complex ideas succinctly and in an easy to understand manner.
- Synthesizing learnings into a logical story using quantitative/qualitative data and/or sound reasoning.
- Communicating to effectively resolve problems or issues.
- Applying a broad knowledge of spend management applications/solutions.
- Establishing credibility as a solutions expert with customers (e.g., positive customer feedback) and within Ariba (e.g., is asked many internal questions) and frequently shares this information within the Ariba organization (and with Ariba customers).
- Quickly learning new Ariba solutions in order to present them credibly and confidently to clients and Ariba Consulting consultants.
- Demonstrating thought leadership in areas of expertise.
- Familiar with the full spectrum of Ariba’s related services, as well as associated differentiators between Ariba’s and the competition’s offerings.
- Conversant with the features, functionality, and applicability of the Ariba ESM suite.
- Articulates the benefits of a cohesive ESM strategy and the added value of Ariba’s solutions, both service and software offerings.
- Identifying key issues that would drive adoption of ESM functionality;
- Identifying key requirements associated with coordinating a successful project, as well as warning signs for those situations where additional effort may be required.
- Sales and Marketing
- Participating in the sales process by sharing project management and software implementation expertise, preparing scope definitions, identifying and engaging in new opportunities, renewed business, and gaining references. Actively driving work stream design.
- Engaging with clients at the upper management / executive level.
- Serving as a trusted advisor to clients.
- Identifying client issues and approaches for determining potential solutions.
- Participating in development of go-to market strategies for services and solutions.

- Recognized for substantial experience and thought leadership within many areas of the Ariba solution arena.

- Facilitating work between the Software Implementation Team and Ariba internal teams including Product and Technical Support, Sales, Field Technology, Product Management, and Training.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Functional Experience
- Knowledge of all features around the P2P application
- Participates in an application related community
- Minimum seven years consulting experience in application
- Has experience with minimum of minimum 6 full cycle implementations
- Deep understanding of industry specific business processes (if applicable)
- Has performed several business cases
- Has managed difficult client situations
- Understands the Business Process Library approach and is contributing to it
- Acts as a moderator in the KM environment
- Prefer ERP experience (Oracle/PeopleSoft/SAP) and/or Ariba solution experience
Managerial Experience
- Acted as a team leader in more than 2 projects
- Acts as a coach or mentor for colleagues
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
- A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’ experience with “Big 5” consulting firm or comparable in systems implementation, process re-engineering or a related discipline.
- Broad knowledge of spend management strategies and/or procurement, sourcing, category management, vendor performance management.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully manage large scale projects is a plus.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Industry experience a plus.
- Exposure to multicultural scenarios / international work experience a plus.
- Strong analytical and organizational talent.
- Experience with Ariba solutions preferred.
- Demonstrated Project Management skills/experience or PMI preferred.
