System developer and administrator

System developer and administrator at the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics with placement at Science for Life Laboratory Stockholm. Reference number SU FV-1106-15. Deadline for application: April 30, 2015.

Science for Life Laboratory, www.scilifelab.se, is a national center for large-scale life science research with an advanced technological infrastructure. Much research at SciLifeLab is multidisciplinary and focused around DNA sequencing, gene expression analysis, proteomics, bioinformatics, biostatistics and system biology. The aim is to enable Swedish researchers to analyze genes, transcripts and proteins in different organisms in order to map molecular mechanisms related to health and environment.

Some examples of research areas that currently are conducted within SciLifeLab are clinical genomics/proteomics, cancer genomics and complex disease genomics as well as ecological and environment centered genomics. Bioinformatics and systems biology are central activities within the center and a substantial part of the researchers at SciLifeLab are involved in these areas.

The National Genomics Infrastructure (NGI) at Science for Life Laboratory is a national resource that enables large-scale sequencing and analysis of sequencing data to external users.

Main responsibilities

We are looking for a system administrator and developer to join our production team to develop and maintain informatics solutions handling the production’s internal data flow.

Selection of tasks

  • Automation of data transfers and analysis pipelines
  • Maintenance and development of internal information databases
  • Visualizations of processes and results
  • Surveillance of data transfers and analysis pipelines

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Qualifications Required

  • Degree in computer science/system development or corresponding competence
  • Excellent programming skills in foremost Python, alternatively Perl, Java or C/C++
  • Experience using version control software, such as git
  • Experience of using Linux/UNIX systems
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent skills in spoken and written English

Meriting

  • Experience in using computational clusters (HPC and/or Cloud)
  • Experience in web application development and database administration
  • Experience using LIMS
  • Experience of bioinformatics, sequencing and working with large volumes of data (e.g. NGS data)
