Description

Amgen Job Description Amgen is a leading global biotechnology company, with a mission to serve patients around the world. As a science-based, patient-focused organization, we discover and develop innovative therapies to treat serious illnesses. Our medicines have made a dramatic difference in the lives of millions. Amgen British Columbia, located in Metro Vancouver, Canada, is a research center of excellence focussed primarily on the use of XenoMouse® technology for the discovery of fully human therapeutic monoclonal antibodies.
The department of Therapeutics Discovery is seeking a highly motivated and experienced researcher to join our scientific team. The successful candidate will complement an innovative group with a strong track record of success in pioneering novel antibody-based therapeutics to treat grievous illnesses. This scientist will occupy a lead role in the Therapeutic Antibody Discovery Group and will be tasked with developing new strategies and methods of engineering membrane receptors to enable therapeutic antibody discovery campaigns. The focus of this research will be the most challenging classes of membrane receptors including; ion channels, transporters and GPCRs. This research program will focus on pushing the limits of current technology to enable discovery of antibody therapeutics with unprecedented rare and unique specificities. This unique position also offers the possibility of contributing to discovery, generation and engineering of novel biologic molecules (including antibodies and antibody-like molecules).
The role will require competent, hands-on experimentation, creativity and a keen interest in collaboration building with internal teams and with leading external academic labs. The ideal candidate will have the required qualifications and a demonstrated record of innovative scientific achievement as evidenced by relevant, high-impact publications in top-tier journals.
Basic Qualifications • A Ph.D. in the life sciences (Biomedical Engineering, Biophysics, Structural Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or Immunology).
• Demonstrated experience in protein engineering focused on challenging therapeutic target classes (eg. ion channels, transporters and GPCRs).
• Strong inter-personal skills and the capacity to work in a highly dynamic team environment are essential.
• Advanced scientific analysis and communication skills as evidenced by first author publications.
Preferred Qualifications • 6+ years relevant post-doctoral research or equivalent industry experience in protein engineering, expression, purification and analysis.
• Proficiency with in silico tools to support molecular engineering of proteins
• Experience with in vivo or in vitro antibody discovery approaches
• Demonstrated knowledge of immunology and the principles that govern innate and adaptive immune responses.
• Leadership of col...
