Mathematical Model Design for HIL applications

The research activities consists in the development and realization of mathematical models for the simulation of internal combustion engines aimed at the validation of control strategies via Hardware In the Loop simulations. In particular, the objective is the integration of these models in real-time HIL systems designed to check and validate different control strategies. The approach adopted is model-based, with the use of dynamic models that can effectively simulate the behavior of the powertrain both in steady state and transient conditions, with the aim to evaluate the influence of control parameters on operating conditions. Compared to traditional methods, mainly based on experimental tests to validate the control strategies, the methodologies to be selected must be able to manage the complexity of all the phenomena occurring during the combustion, and the interactions between the subsystems and the large number of control parameters
