PhD Scholarship in Chemistry & Engineering of Surfaces and Interfaces

ZHAW Life Sciences & Facility Management and Nanyang Technological University are offering a fully funded four years

PhD Scholarship in Chemistry & Engineering of Surfaces and Interfaces

to begin in January 2016, with a focus on the development of smart polymeric nanomaterials and interfaces.

The PhD work will be carried out in partnership with Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore and ZHAW in Switzerland. The PhD candidate will be based for 2 years in Switzerland (ZHAW) and 2 years in Singapore (NTU), and will be conferred the Ph.D. Degree by NTU upon meeting the stringent requirements.

The ideal candidate should have a Master’s degree with background in Chemistry, Material Sciences, Life Sciences or Chemical Engineering and/or practical knowledge in polymer synthesis and/or interfacial phenomena. The doctoral work will be supervised by Asst. Prof. Jia Wei Chew (NTU), whose main interests are in interfaces, anti-fouling of membranes, nanoparticle flow and filtration technologies, and will be co-supervised by Metrohm Endowed Prof. Andrei Honciuc (ZHAW), whose main interests are in nanomaterials and functional surfaces.

For admission into the doctoral program at NTU, both Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) results are necessary and knowledge of German is an advantage.

ZHAW offers a multicultural environment, multiple professional development opportunities and excellent infrastructure. As for NTU, it is ranked 2nd among the world’s universities under 50 years old and is the 7th top university in Asia, largely based on the excellent environment it provides for students to achieve excellence in their intellectual pursuits.

Interested applicants are encouraged to contact us for further questions or send their CVs and Letter of Interest in English or German via email to Dr. Jia Wei Chew (jchew<στο>ntu.edu.sg) or Dr. Andrei Honciuc (andrei.honciuc<στο>zhaw.ch).

The candidate selected for financial support will then be asked to submit an online application for official admission into the NTU’s PhD program before 30 June 2015 for the January 2016 intake.
