Senior Scientist - Assay Development

JOB DESCRIPTION

Within imec’s Life Science Technologies department, our group’s research activities focus on the development of novel tools for health care applications. Current projects vary from lab-on-a-chip systems and PCR devices to neuroprobes and photonic sensing devices. Such technologies require a multidisciplinary approach within a team that has expertise in engineering, molecular biology, cell biology and surface chemistry. Especially for our work in new devices for point of care diagnostics, we are looking for an enthusiastic scientist eager to shape tomorrow’s health care technologies. We aim at research and development at the highest international level and with relevance for the biomedical and pharmaceutical industry.

Job description

We are looking for an R&D scientist with a strong technical background in the field of diagnostic assay development with a special focus on detection using colorimetry, amperometry or ion selective electrodes. Experience with product development and/or project management are a plus but the successful candidate will be someone capable of working with an interdisciplinary technical team and be able to drive technical activities based on aggressive project timelines. This person will have to:

  • Plan, organize and execute activities related to assay development for a mobile diagnostic platform.
  • Work with an interdisciplinary team to define overall specifications, perform trade-off analyses, review risk tables, and respond to unplanned technical challenges.
  • Report technical progress to project team, management and external customers.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Profile

  • You have preferably a PhD degree with a minimum of 3 years relevant industrial experience in the medical diagnostics field. We will also consider individuals with a Master’s degree with minimum of 7 years of relevant industry experience.
  • You have a proven track record in the development of diagnostic tests. In other words, you have demonstrated success in diagnostic assay development in a commercial or clinical setting.
  • Excellent working knowledge of colorimetric, amperometric or ion selective detection principles for diagnostic applications.
  • Working knowledge of electrochemical analytical techniques.
  • Experience with enzyme stabilization and immobilization technologies.
  • Experience in process development, DOEs and transfer to manufacturing.
  • You are a hands-on problem solver and can use experimental techniques, literature studies, and personal contacts to find innovate solutions.
  • You are familiar with existing diagnostic products and are pro-active in defining new opportunities for intellectual property.
  • You are a team player with excellent communication skills and fluent in English.
