IRENA is an inter-governmental organization, mandated by Governments worldwide to promote the widespread and increased adoption and sustainable use of all forms or renewable energy. In order to do so, IRENA will facilitate access to all relevant renewable energy. It facilitates and analyses the sharing of best practices and lessons learned regarding policy frameworks, capacity-building activities, available financial mechanisms and relevant technologies on renewable energy.

IRENA Innovation and Technology Centre (IITC) is responsible for the provision of the means for an accelerated renewable energy technology uptake, considering national conditions of resource endowment, social and economic frameworks. In accordance with the IRENA Statute, activities in this field include analysis of renewable energy technology policies; dissemination of information and increased awareness; technologies and equipment overview and assessment of success-failure factors; improved pertinent knowledge and technology transfer, and joint RD&D and provision of information about the development and deployment of national and international technical standards in relation to renewable energy.

Junior Professional Associates Programme

The purpose of the Junior Professional Associates Programme is to enable junior talented and promising university graduates and post graduates to gain first-hand experience in the work of IRENA and a deeper insight into the role of the Agency in promoting the widespread and increased adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy. The programme offers an opportunity to gain valuable exposure to all areas relevant to IRENA activities but mainly in the areas of capacity building, knowledge management and technical cooperation. On occasion, there are also opportunities in support areas such as administration, finance, human resources and public information. The Agency will also benefit from gaining new and motivated members of staff, bringing new skills and perspectives.

Under the supervision of the Programme Officer for REmap 2030 (IRENA's Renewable Energy Roadmap) at the IITC, the JPA will

  • Provide analytical support to the REmap Programme Officer with the analysis of energy use projections of countries, sectors, and renewable energy technology, cost and performance.
  • Assist the REmap Programme Officer with the write-up of country results based on research and analysis, and draw conclusions for policy makers; and contribute to the preparation of the second version of the comprehensive REmap policy and technology roadmap.
  • Assist with the management of the REmap network, including: keeping records of country focal points and experts; dealing with requests for information; organizing workshops; facilitating communications with network members; sending requests for data and screening the data received and inputting it into the IRENA REmap analysis Excel spreadsheet framework. Contribute to the country dialogue and communications.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports and brochures for publication including the creation of templates for charts and tables, liaising with the publication and communications teams, as well as the design and printing companies.
  • Prepare summaries, information sheets, PowerPoint presentations, and interact with relevant stakeholders as required.
  • Perform other tasks to assist the REmap Programme Officer and IITC in the completion of the programme of work as required.

Qualifications

Education

  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in energy, engineering, management, economics, natural science, or a related field.

Experience

  • Knowledge or previous experience in energy systems analysis, renewable energy policy, and energy technology is desirable.

Language

  • Excellent command of written and spoken English is a must.
  • Knowledge of other languages is desirable.
