Deputy Discipline Manager/Piping and Plant Layout (Staff)

AMEC Foster Wheeler London Capital Projects are seeking an ambitious Deputy Discipline Manager for the Oil & Gas Piping and Plant Layout Engineering Group.

This role offers an opportunity for the successful candidate to play a central role in shaping and leading of a key engineering discipline. The role is essential for maintaining and growing our position as a leading provider of engineering and consultancy services within the Oil and Gas engineering and construction industry.

You will be directly responsible for managing the piping engineering team, reporting to the Piping Discipline Manager. Responsibilities will include hiring and developing staff within the discipline, ensuring delivery of engineering projects and supporting project lead engineers. You will also hold responsibility for acting as lead or consultant engineer on projects as required.

You will closely support the Piping discipline manager for delivery of objectives in line with budgets, schedules and HSSE requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out duties and undertake responsibilities in accordance with all relevant HSSE requirements, legislation, policies and procedures as outlined by AMEC Foster Wheeler, our clients, partners and related bodies;
  • Share responsibility for the design and development of work scopes, review of man hours, execution plans, and peer reviews;
  • Prepare and deliver client presentations and liaise with a range of stakeholders as required;
  • Perform personnel appraisals, resource management, lead interviews and recruitment as appropriate;
  • Participate in graduate recruitment and development and mentoring of the graduate population;
  • Oversee the delivery of personnel development plans and the integration of new hires to the discipline;
  • Act as a consultant and/or lead engineer for projects as required ensuring the delivery of engineering objectives in line with all relevant requirements;
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives which further enhance AMEC Foster Wheeler’s competitiveness;
  • Support development of proposals for winning new work, provide technical assistance to business development strategies, activities and initiatives.

Role requirements

  • A degree qualification in an appropriate engineering subject and chartered through an engineering institution;
  • Experienced leading the delivery of core Piping and Plant Layout discipline activities (design, analyses, surveys and reviews) to the highest technical standards based on experience gained in the oil and gas EPC sector;
  • Demonstrable knowledge of and skill in supporting the management of a large discipline underpinned by experience;
  • Evidence behaviours which encourage those around you to adopt a proactive attitude to ensuring/improving best practice in all work related activities.
