Early Stage Researchers (PhD Fellowships) X 2 - EURO-SEQUENCES

Queen Mary, University of London - Faculty of Science and Engineering

School of Engineering & Materials Science

Ref: QMUL5748

Applications are invited for two Early Stage Researchers (PhD fellowships), working under the supervision of Dr Remzi Becer in the School of Engineering & Materials Science, Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), as part of the Marie Curie Innovative Training Network EURO-SEQUENCES, on a project focusing on the development of novel macromolecules with precise sequence control. For more information on the project please visit www.eurosequences.com.

The project started in January 2015 and will run for 4 years, each of the studentships is funded for 36 months with a flexible starting date from May 2015 till October 2015. The PhD students in the research network will receive training in a wide area of polymeric structures, polymer synthesis, biomaterials, supramolecular chemistry and other professional skills through regular workshops and secondments to network partners. The project offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of this revolutionary area of research and be part of developing the next generation precision polymers.

Applicants need to have a Masters degree and/or equivalent professional experience in Chemistry with research experience in organic synthesis of small and large molecules as well as their characterization using NMR, MALDITOF, GPC, DSC, TGA and microscopy techniques. Candidates with specific experience in precision polymer synthesis and organic chemistry will be preferred.

Candidates need to fulfill the EC's eligibility criteria: they must have graduated with a first degree in chemistry at most in the last 4 years. The fellows at QMUL must not have resided or carried out their main activity in the UK for more than 12 months since January 2012. The project is committed to equal opportunity for all applicants and will adhere to The European Charter for Researchers. Candidates need to have achieved IELTS 6.5 or equivalent.

The posts are full time and fixed term for 36 months, available from April 2015. They are funded by an EC-ITN grant with a salary range from £29,173 to £32,533 per annum, depending on family status. Additional benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.

Informal enquiries should be addressed to Dr. Remzi Becer via email to r.becer<στο>qmul.ac.uk.
